weekly reflection 2

 Our project came to an endpoint at the end of this weekend. We basically finished both our document and poster by Saturday. Our poster-making process went surprisingly well because we had everything designed and mostly planned out at the beginning of our project. So during this week, Grace and I first wrote the scripts for our interviews. We went over the interview clips again and took notes to better understand their perspective and draw deeper connections to their love stories. 

One obstacle to our poster was that the original color paper that we glued on the canvas board was so wrinkled that Grace realized that anything we put on the board surface afterward won't stay. Therefore, we had to go to that art store to start the poster again. Honestly, I didn't think it was going to turn out much differently, but I was surprised by how smoothly and flat the poster came out the second time. That’s when I realized that we have to make our project perfect without 

I think throughout our project, we met our goals. Our first goal was to overcome the fear of talking to strangers and even interview them. Even though at first we were frightened of getting rejected, after a few tries, we got so much more comfortable talking to our interviewees. We even can develop deeper conversations with them by asking follow-up questions. And since we got a lot more flexible and less nervous, the interviewees seemed to be more encouraged and willing to share their love life with us.   

As for our second goal—group work—I think we have so much improvement on that this week. At first, whenever we had disagreements, we would get into sharp quarrels trying to prove ourselves right. However, during the second week, we learned to respect one another’s points and discuss our disagreements calmly and thoughtfully. For example, if we have different views on a documentary scene whether putting it there, we would sit down, express our reasons one by one, and come to a solution together.

Overall, I'm very proud of our work and am thankful for my partners. We put so much effort into our project and it came out so perfectly that I can't wait to present it to everyone.

  It’s already the end of our first week doing our senior project in New York City. It felt a bit unreal but here we are halfway through our journey. Before going on this trip, I was hesitant and nervous about what would happen in New York because every time I went to New York, I always became overwhelmed by its chaos. I was also scared of getting rejected by people we tried to interview and then being shattered by our failed attempt.  Feeling uncertain but excited, our journey has begun. On the first day, we went to an extensive art store for art supplies for our poster. The store basically had everything we need, so we got color paper, a huge canvas board, sharpies, glue, collage paper, and so on. day 9

 Because we had a few arguments in the past few days, this morning we discussed the documentary's common vision. It is sometimes hard to have all three of us agree on one point, so we took a long time comparing and deciding. Finally, we came up with one solution: whenever someone has an idea, one has to say it before actually working on it to avoid wasting time. After that, Jack edited the documentary, while Grace and I started working on the poster. Yesterday, we realized that we need one more figure to be on the poster because there's still space. So today we went over the interview clips to choose another girl that fits our theme, draw her out, and write the scripts. And we also redid some sketches and narratives for our poster.  today's work hours: 8.5 hrs total work hours: 75.5 hrs

day 4

 Today we went to Times Square and tried to do some interviews there. I used to think that it will be the easiest spot for the interview due to the number of people there are on the square. But the thing is that it's so crowded and overwhelming that everyone is so busy walking and no one will stop for our interview. Therefore, we decided to go back to Brooklyn since there were fewer crowds and people are just chilling in the park. So after lunch, we went to Dumbo, a Brooklyn bridge park, for more interviews. The weather is so nice today that a lot of people were at the park today, so we gathered many good clips of interviews. At the end of the day, we headed home to organize the clips we've got so far and wrote down each of them with the name of the interviewees and their stories.  total work hours: 8.5 hrs
